Could. This. Be It? Could the lovely brushed brass Vita Silvia lampshade be the new lampshade for our bedroom? Despite the actual bedroom renovation having happened the best part of a year ago, I still haven’t found a new ceiling light. Somehow, nothing quite seems right. Or if it does, it needs a second mortgage to afford it.
I’m loving all the modern metallics that are around right now, especially brass. But the new light can’t be too blingy, because that’s not us and it definitely isn’t the rest of the bedroom. I was smitten by the colour and finish of the Vita Silvia lampshade. A soft, silvery gold that’s not too yellow, or too shiny.
I want something with a contemporary feel, so the Silvia’s Danish design credentials are a big plus.
I also like that the Vita Silvia lampshade is one of those clever, flat-packed, put-it-together-yourself kind of lampshades. Vita have even made a video that shows you the whole process, so no need to puzzle over cryptic instruction sheets.
The Silvia lampshade is available in white too, which is also a contender for the bedroom. Although I’ve utterly fallen in love with the brass finish, I now wonder if it may (sadly) be just that bit too sophisticated for the rest of the scheme.
Although how gorgeous does the brass look against those moody grey walls?

There’s also this copper version, although I’m not a big fan myself. That said, the copper trend is still going strong.
If you like the look of the Vita Silvia lampshade, it’s useful to know that it’s not just for ceilings. You can also use it to create a really beautiful table or floor lamp. You just need to buy a separate stand, which comes in either black or white. The shade can be used either way up, depending on the look you want. I think it looks great as the floor lamp above.

Although the table version is very striking too, don’t you think?
So where does that leave me … Brushed brass? White? I’m thinking, maybe after this long there’s no big rush. I’ll sleep on it (again).
