The new contemporary textile designs by Parris Wakefield Additions were one of my absolute highlights of the TENT London 2014 design show last weekend. Regular readers will know what a huge fan I am of the work of graphic designers turned textile/interiors products pattern maestros Sarah Parris and Howard Wakefield. They’re as lovely and friendly in person as their work is beautiful, and I’ve written about their work previously here and here.
Their two new textile designs for 2014, Chance and Forget me Not, both feature Parris Wakefield’s trademark intricate layered patterns and art-inspired colour palettes and both are equally stunning, but with very different personalities.

Launched in May, Chance, top picture and above, was inspired by Gerhard Richter’s squeegee paintings, and is a delectable mix of painterly splashes of flamboyant colour “merged with broad digital blurs” . The pattern is digitally printed onto a fabulous, heavy 100% cotton velvet and is so faithfully rendered that you almost expect to feel the texture of paint when you touch it.

Chance is suitable for upholstery, blinds, curtains and soft furnishings, and star of the show was the Mini-Mia chair, part of the Mia furniture range designed in collaboration with Jane Richard Interiors especially to showcase Parris Wakefield’s new fabrics.

There are also cushions and lampshades available in the Chance design, this time printed onto cotton.

Brand new and having its first exclusive outing at TENT London, is Parris Wakefield’s second new design this year, Forget-me-Not. With its equally flamboyant repeat pattern, it compliments Chance and, they say, “continues the studio’s direction for more intricate patterns with layering to create a sense of depth.

The colour palette was inspired by a vintage Valentines card and led Parris Wakefield Additions “to create a pattern that was a real expression of their love for colour and pattern.” Forget-me-not is printed onto a linen/cotton blend and is suitable for curtains, blinds, upholstery and soft furnishings.

Forget-me-Not also made a big splash as the show, covering the larger Mia couch, seen peeking out from behind a lampshade in the same design in the picture above.
