If you’re searching for colourful, contemporary pendant lights but just can’t find the ones that are exactly right, look no further. How about creating your own using these beautifully clever Alphabeta pendant lights from Hem?
With 8 different shapes, each of which comes in its own special colour, as well as black and white, you can choose which two shades to combine to create your own pendant lamp, which emits light from both the top and bottom shades (each has their own bulb).
That means there are 24 available shapes for any one lamp, and apparently over 10 billion combinations of top and bottom shapes if you decided to go for a set of four pendant lights, as shown below. (As if making decorating decisions wasn’t hard enough already).
Designed for Hem by Venetian designer Luca Nichetto, the Alphabeta shades are crafted from steel and spun by-hand on a lathe in a specialist lighting factory near to his studio in the heart of Venice. The result is an incredibly smooth, pristine finish that’s very durable and the inner surface of the shades is powder-coated white for optimal and even light diffusion.
The shades are joined by a central metal ‘heartpiece’, and Hem say that putting them together takes around a minute, and the cable drop can be anything up to 2 metres.
Playing with the online Alphabeta customisation tool is seriously addictive – you can try out all the different combinations of shades and see how the colours of the carefully chosen palette work together. There’s also a ‘Surprise Me’ option if you need some extra inspiration. And, of course, you can opt for classic monochrome and go all black or white – or one of each.
