Peter Crawley is a product designer who also creates Stitched Illustrations – pictures created by hand piercing board or paper and then stitching the design with cotton thread. Subjects include iconic buildings such as the BT Tower, the Empire State Building and Liberty’s of London, typography and maps. His illustrations have been commissioned and used commercially by leading international brands, advertising agencies and publications such as Wallpaper magazine and the London Design Guide. The very first piece was inspired by a road trip he took across America, and the desire to illustrate the journey.
Here are a few examples of his stunning and beautifully executed work. My particular favourites are the pieces where the thread is used to create 3D textural effects, making a striking contrast with the smoothness of the board and the tautness of the flat stitches.
