This new, colourful bamboo tableware by ‘Queen of Prints’ Orla Kiely is making me smile so much at the moment.
Great timing, too, don’t you think? Because it’s begun: the annual rollercoaster that is British summer weather. OK, technically it’s still actually Spring, but you know what I mean. It’s certainly been hotter in London this week than it often is in July.
And how absolutely lovely it’s been to sit in the garden and soak up a few rays, and even have the first alfreso meals of the year.
This new range of Orla Kiely bamboo tableware was a discovery made in a lovely kitchenware shop in Devon, whilst on holiday at Easter, .
I bought a couple of the tumblers as gifts, and brought this fabulously retro Cantaloupe Melon Bamboo Jug back home for ourselves
To be honest, though, I had to stop myself buying the whole range there and then. I absolutely love the colours and patterns, and also the smooth, silky-matt feel and look of the material itself. If you want to stock up on outdoor tableware, but don’t like plastic, then bamboo is a great alternative.
This particular range of bamboo tableware is made from a mix of bamboo fibre, corn starch, melamine, and wood fibre. It’s incredibly lightweight and durable, is dishwasher safe but shouldn’t be used in the microwave. Care instructions also say not to clean with abrasive products.
The generous sized bamboo tumblers, along with the side plates, feature Orla Kiely’s iconic Acorn Spot pattern. There are three make-you-smile colours to choose from – Pale Rose (personal favourite!), Duck Egg and Elderflower (green).
Then there are these bamboo bowls in another trademark Orla Kiely pattern, Linear Stem, also available in three colours. A useful size, they could be used for pasta, side salads or desserts. And as breakfast bowls for cereals and even serving bowls for snacks and dips.
To match the very 1970’s Cantaloupe Melon jug I’ve already got, I’m hankering after these larger bamboo serving plates in the same design.
No need to trek to Devon to find it – all the Orla Kiely bamboo tableware is available online in the UK at Amara. But, happily, that’s not all. I also discovered they stock a whole range of fabulous Orla Kiely tableware for use inside and out.
And also totally gorgeous stoneware items for the table. This jug particularly caught my eye. (I work on the principle that it’s just not possible to have too many jugs).
What a great opportunity for some mixing and matching. The new Orla Kiely bamboo tableware collection is easily stylish enough to be used everyday at any time of year, not just outdoors in the summer. And it mixes in beautifully with other items from her range.
More warm and sunny weather please.
