These versatile, indoor/outdoor Diamond Kilim rugs designed by Charlotte Lancelot for GAN get my thumbs up for both style and sustainability. And with outdoor socialising top of the agenda for the coming weeks, a rug for your lawn, patio or decking has to be one of the easiest, quickest ways to create a comfortable, inspirational outdoor space.
Inspired by the faceted sides of a diamond, this beautiful collection of kilim-style rugs are woven using recycled plastic PET fibre which (maybe surprisingly) is incredibly soft and has a texture remarkably similar to wool. And because the fibres are pliable and light too, they can be used in the manual looms traditionally used to weave kilim rugs, the tightly-woven floorcoverings that are renowned for their beauty and durability.
Using less plastic in the first place is obviously the way to go in our fight for our precious planet, but in the meantime it’s good to know that designers and manufacturers are finding ways to turn existing plastic waste into beautiful and useful homewares.
I’m always drawn to designs with overlapping colours and all three colourways of the Diamond kilims are delicious. Choose from sophisticated Nude-Petrol, above, the ocean shades of Blue-Green or fresh Pink-Yellow, both pictured below.
In additional to the 3 colourways, there are also 3 practical sizes to choose from – Small 170 x 200 cm, Medium 200 x 260 cm and Large 300 x 390 cm. And don’t forget – these hardwearing indoor/outdoor rugs are easy to clean and make perfect additions to dining rooms, children’s playrooms or any indoor space that gets lots of wear and tear.
The Nude/Petrol colourway is getting my vote right now, but whichever one you choose the GAN Diamond Kilim Indoor/Outdoor rug is sure to brighten your home and garden year round. Most importantly, though, it will help you create a colourful, beautiful outside space for socialising safely with family and guests in coming weeks.
