White and brass Revolve Table Lamp by Bert FrankOne of my favourite finds at the recent Decorex show was this lovely new design from Bert Frank, the British lighting brand that launched earlier this year. With its brass base and stem and spun steel shade, the Revolve Table Lamp embodies perfectly the company’s guiding philosophy:

“At Bert Frank we take a huge amount of pride in designing and manufacturing products in-house in the UK to the highest possible standard. We don’t cut corners and we don’t sacrifice on quality to reduce costs and therefore we hope that our products will be a joy to own and use for a very long time”.

An opal diffuser casts a warm glow downwards, whilst a subtle highlight is created by light escaping through the brass detailing on top of the shade.  The solid brass base has an inset ring that matches the matte colour of the shade, which comes in Petrol Blue, Black or Old English White.  I think the on/off pull chain is a particularly fine detail, and quite irresistible.

Blue Revolve Rise and Fall Pendant Light by Bert FrankThe Revolve range also includes a Pendant Light and a Rise and Fall Pendant, which again has beautiful detailing on the pulley mechanism.  It’s possible to have lights customised to your own specific requirements, or bespoke items designed and made from scratch.  Made to last a lifetime, Bert Frank lights are also designed to be loved for a lifetime. They say:

Bert Frank items are designed to oppose the throw away culture we live in today and are built to last at least as long as you will. During this time they will age and mature with you. The brass will soften and darken (unless you don’t want it to and treat it to a little polish) and any knocks or scratches it may pick up over the years will add to its story. That’s how we see them anyway, if you don’t, you can always book them in for a recondition session.

A sentiment that’s just as solid, no-nonsense and down to earth as their name.  Nice one, Bert Frank.
