Back in January (that long ago already?!) I put together some of my favourite interiors pieces made of brass. My preference for this particular metal seems to be shared by many, as I’ve subsequently seen several reports of it being a very solid trend that’s set to last.
So I was interested to see that Anglepoise have added touches of brass to their Original 1227™ lighting range. Designed in 1934 by automotive engineer George Carwardine, these flexible and perfectly balanced desk lamps were groundbreaking and innovative, and an instant success with their spring-loaded versatility. The design has never been bettered, and today enjoys iconic design status.

The Anglepoise Original 1227 Brass Collection gives these iconic lamps a fresh, new aesthetic, albeit one that harks back to the past. Heritage inspired colours, woven cable and authentic brass details have a retro appeal, whilst the addition of wall and pendant versions offers a range of practical options for the contemporary home.
I’ve loved looking at these beautiful shots of the collection, and especially like the wall-mounted version of the desk lamp. It’s particularly useful if you’re short of space on your desk or table but love the design and want the functionality of the adjustable arm. It could be positioned in so many places – over a desk, bedside table, dining table, or next to a sofa as a reading lamp. And even used pairs, like below. See what you think …

The beautifully crafted brass elements add warmth and character to the range and are the kind of little touches that fall emphatically into my “everyday pleasure” category – small, considered details that give huge amounts of visual and tactile enjoyment.

The Pendant Lamp is a very striking piece, and can be hung singly or in series, to great effect. It comes in two sizes; that’s the small version above, and the larger Maxi below.
The matching Wall Light completes the range.
