This is the time of year we start looking at our homes with a fresh eye. Maybe just for those little extra ‘Spring’ cleaning tasks or perhaps with a view to redecorating and changing a room (or two) entirely.
One of the tips I’ve taken to heart from the professionals when thinking of redecorating a room is – choose a rug first. Whatever floor surface you have, a rug provides a focal point and an anchor for the scheme, and adds colour, pattern and texture. Plus it’s so much easier to find paint to match textiles like rugs and curtains than the other way around.
My final post of 2014 was simply three of my favourite interiors images from last year, and this one above from Design*Sponge shows how a rug can be the perfect finishing touch that pulls all the elements of a room together. As here, it can also add a touch of the unexpected; I love how they’ve used these elegant shades of soft rose pink and silvery grey against all the bare wood and more rustic fittings.
So, I’ve rounded up my favourite contemporary, colourful rugs from this season. Some are bright, some more subtle, some patterned, some plain, plus a range of materials and textures. With spring and summer on the way cotton based rugs and lightweight hides can add a different feel to your rooms and mark the change of seasons.
But all of these colourful rugs are guaranteed to make a statement, and be the perfect springboard for a fresh look this year.
