Notes of vibrant, luscious raspberry and ripe, juicy plum, with just a hint of golden apricot – no, not a full-bodied Pinot Noir, but Chic Blotch from Timorous Beasties. Like a great wine, though, this dramatic design has complexity and depth; click here to see it on the Timorous Beasties website and hover over the pattern to see the full glory of the subtle shading and intricate detailing – mouthwateringly gorgeous!
From their Rorschach Collection, Chic Blotch is available as both wallpaper and fabric by the metre and is inspired by the Rorschach inkblot test, a form of psychological personality assessment created in 1921 by Swiss psychologist Hermann Rorschach. Take the test yourself – what do YOU see in this pattern?
Timorous Beasties, founded in Glasgow in 1990 by Alistair McAuley and Paul Simmons, is known for its contemporary and surreal reinterpretations of traditional patterns and designs, including plants, birds and insects and, somewhat controversially, the ‘Toile de Jouy’ fabrics of Napoleonic France. The latter are reworked to depict the often seedy underbelly of city life rather than the pastoral scenes of the originals; to add to Edinburgh, Glasgow, and London, their latest – New York City Toile – was launched in September 2012.
As well as wallpaper and fabrics, their range includes lampshades, cushions and ceramics – visit the website to see their whole range and for more dramatic and provocative pattern and colour.
