154-resized-imagefullWe featured the striking work of London-based French illustrator Malika Favre earlier this year (read more here), and are delighted to see that her theme of ‘Hide and Seek’ has been transported to Bologna to produce illustrations for the packaging of the Christmas 2013 Carluccio panettone (always a highlight of the festive season!).

As with Malika’s original series of screenprints, the use of repetitive architectural forms create bold, abstract, graphic patterns.  The Italian theme means that the setting is the stairways, arched colonnades and towers of medieval Bologna, and again we catch tantalising glimpses of a woman – and also a man too this time – who are always just disappearing from view.  Who are they, and where are they going?  Are they together or alone – do they meet?  I don’t think we’ll ever know.

In contrast to the monochrome palette of the original ‘Hide and Seek’ series, the panettone boxes are adorned with rich, festive reds and browns with gold foil highlights. The effect is stunning when seen en masse stacked up in the shops.
