True Colour Vases by &Tradition

These gorgeous jewel-coloured metallic True Colour vases from one of our favourite independent shops here at CBT HQ, Couverture and the Garbstore, are just the thing to brighten dark winter days. Their richly textured colours and gleaming metallics will gleam and glow in fire and candlelight – both of which I can’t get enough of right now to counteract the gloom of stormy grey days and long, dark evenings.

It’s in wintertime that metallics around the home really come into their own. Their reflective surfaces mirror back all available light and their colours come alive to warm and cheerful effect. So finding this combination of colour, texture and metallics – along with some very fine craftsmanship – is sheer joy.

A collaboration between Danish design studio &Tradition and Dutch designer Lex Pott, True Colours is a series of seven vases which juxtaposes polished metal with its oxidized patina. Steel, brass copper and aluminium reveal a rich spectrum of colours, shades and textures which contrast strikingly with their polished twin.

Each vase – and metal – has its own individual character and beauty, but I’d have to put the Green Copper vase above at the top of my lust list, closely followed by the Blue Brass vase below.

To produce the True Colour vases the metal tube is first oxidized to obtain its own distinct colour, then a thin layer is milled off to create a contrast between the oxidized and milled finish of the metal. The product is finally covered with clear lacquer to avoid further oxidation of the metal. On a practical note, all vases are supplied with a plastic inner-vase that can be taken out to ensure easy cleaning and provide a happy environment for your flowers.
