Imagine having the biggest and most inspirational contemporary design store ever in your front room, where you can browse, discover, admire and shop – all from the comfort of your sofa.
Well, you don’t have to just imagine. I know I’ve mentioned Clippings to you before, as it’s the most incredible online roundup of all that’s brightest, best (and most colourful) in contemporary design. Everything that I see and love when I visit the UK design shows is on their website, plus lots more from up and coming designers from Europe – and the rest of the world – too.
If beautifully crafted, innovative design is your thing, then Clippings is the place to find it. And for colour and pattern lovers, it’s absolute heaven – you can lose yourself for hours amongst the surface pattern and textile designs, not to mention the graphic art.
Following young designers along their path to success is such a pleasure. It’s incredibly exciting to meet designers at their very first shows and write about their work, then see it again later in the monthly interiors magazines, and finally in the shops – sometimes even on the high street. Now you can do the same with Clippings – browse the site and see what and who catches your eye, read the designers’ stories, and wait to see if you’ve spotted the up and coming talent too.
To help spread the design love, I’ve teamed up with Clippings to offer colourful beautiful things readers a special discount – £15 off and free delivery for orders over £150. (More details on this at the bottom of the page).
My most recent virtual talent spotting resulted in these colourful beautiful finds, although there could easily have been many, many more …
The Woven Wool Collection, top and above, showcases London-based design studio Hokolo’s signature geometric mid-century inspired patterns. The collection of interior accessories include cushions, lampshades, turned wood lamp bases and upholstered vintage chairs made in England.

The Plera Suspension Lamp, above and below, combines glossy ceramic and solid, curved beech wood elements and comes in a range of colours. ‘Plera’ means ‘funnel’ in an obscure Northern Italian language and Italian designer Enrico Zanolla believes his shapely lamp “is the perfect expression of simplicity”. We couldn’t agree more.

Dutch designer Renate Vos’s Concrete Table Lamp combines cast concrete with soft silicone for an industrial looking lamp that emits a warm and welcoming glow.

The Raffa Chair by British furniture designer Ian Archer blends the classic and contemporary. The rattan sides and back reference traditional skills and contrast with the clean, modern lines of the beautifully crafted frame. Awarded the “Design Guild Mark” 2013.
Biggs & Quail design and handcraft mid century-inspired furniture in London using carefully selected hardwoods. This Mid Century Credenza above is made from ash, with steel hairpin legs.

Out and Out Original are a family run UK designer furniture brand, and we love their Olivia 3-seater sofa. Combining modern and retro styling with this beautiful mid blue upholstery, it looks comfortable enough for some serious sofa snuggling.
Now, what about some cushions to go on that lovely sofa?

And to finish off, some graphic art for the walls.

Israeli Born Yoni Alter has lived in London since 2006, and creates simple and colourful graphic art. His series of cityscapes depict major cities of the world, and smaller ones too, with their iconic buildings drawn in relative scale to each other. These gallery quality giclée prints are limited editions and each one is signed, dated and hand-embossed.

Lane’s collection of homewares and gifts are made from beautiful, sustainable paper that is made by one of the oldest and last remaining paper mills in the country and their hand-pulled screen prints are printed by highly experienced craftsmen in Nottingham (my home town – yay!). The print above is called Honeycomb.
Designers Joff and Ollie started Lane “because of their passion for beautifully designed products and a desire to work with the best of British designers and craftspeople”.
I hope you’ve enjoyed this small tour of my current design favourites from Clippings. See more (so much more!) at Clippings.com.
