Grey, pink and orange Poppy Field Rug by French ConnectionI absolutely love this rug.  Just. Love. It.  I was looking at it over breakfast, which prompted me to get the tape measure and start looking at spots all over the house it might fit (nowhere) which then led to some spontaneous furniture reorganisation (eeew – dust, tumbleweed sized balls of fluff, spiders…).  Which then necessarily led to a spot of cleaning and now it’s nearly lunchtime.  And there’s still nowhere the rug will work.  Sigh.  (But at least the house is cleaner).  So the Poppy Field Rug will have to live here instead, on the blog, and hopefully someone will find it, and have space for it, and buy it, which will be great.

Detail of cotton printed Poppy Field Rug with fringe by French ConnectionI appreciate it’s not the most sophisticated of rugs – it’s a woven cotton durrie and the pattern is hand screen printed, not woven.  But that’s a plus in my book.  Firstly, because it keeps the cost down.  Secondly, it makes a very traditional and classic rug design much more casual and contemporary (like brogues made of coloured suede rather than highly polished black leather – creates a totally different vibe).

And the colours are right up my street – pink, grey, turquoise/green and orange – and so beautifully faded.  You can see how subtle and distressed they are in the close up picture above.  The pink/orange/green combination is reminiscent of Indian miniature paintings, which I could look at for hours.

Grey and pink Poppy Field Rug in contemporary warehouse room settingJust see how great the Poppy Field Rug looks in this contemporary loft style setting, above.  The grey  in the design  means it will work beautifully with surfaces such as concrete  and stone, and it’ll also fit right in with lots of contemporary colour schemes. The aged, distressed appearance lets it blend into the background somewhat – I love that it’s not at all gaudy.  It’s the perfect rug for lots of interior schemes – traditional, industrial, urban rustic, eclectic … it’s a winner.  (Is there really nowhere I could put one?)

When I read interiors magazines, designers often talk about buying things they love and then finding somewhere to put them.  I have a little voice telling me to do exactly that with this rug… it’s not too expensive either – £155 from French Connection.  Hmm … what to do, what to do..?  Have a great weekend everyone.
