Today, it’s all about fresh, bright colour and pattern, to warm things up a bit on this cold winter’s day. Primrose and crocus are out in the park, hellebores are coming into bloom in the garden, and I want to look at cheery designs that will make me smile and help me remember the feel of spring sunshine on my face. So where better to turn than the lovely, nature inspired patterns of MissPrint, the mother and daughter surface pattern design duo Yvonne and Rebecca Drury. I’m ashamed to say we haven’t written about them before, but we’re about to rectify that omission right now.

The designs for the MissPrint range of wallpaper, fabric and interior accessories are all created in their countryside studio, which also nestles right up to the border of East London, giving them the best of both rural and city life. Starting with hand-drawn illustrations, Yvonne and Rebecca say of their design inspirations:
We love making patterns and designs, developing new ideas and seeing them grow into designs is so exciting. Nature has a big influence on our work; a simple leaf or flower has so many beautiful qualities of line, shape, colour and texture.
We also love mid century and Scandinavian design which is marked by its simplicity, clean lines and organic forms.

The mid-century influence is evident, both in the patterns and the colour palettes, but I love the fact that this is just a starting point, and that MissPrint’s designs are most definitely their own and have a fresh, contemporary appeal. There’s also a pared-back Japanese simplicity to some of the patterns which, along with the Scandi vibe, makes for some stunning, graphic motifs.

The Mountains design above in classic grey and yellow is one of my favourite. All the designs come in a choice of colourways – all of which are delicious, making choosing just one extremely hard – and you can order samples of wallpapers and fabrics for a very small fee for you to match at home.
Visit their website to see the whole range of MissPrint wallpaper, textiles, cushions and lampshades. You can buy from them direct, and there’s also a list of worldwide stockists too, including John Lewis stores nationwide in the UK who also carry a range of MissPrint home accessories such as bedlinen and kitchenware.
