The latest addition to the covetable illy Art Collection Cups would be the perfect gift for art lovers who also appreciate great coffee. The Italian coffee brand have been collaborating with international artists since 1992 to produce their signed, numbered limited edition collections of coffee cups and saucers.
Since 2006 they’ve even included the coffee cans in the illy Art Collection Project. The labels peel off these special Art Cans once you’ve finished using the coffee, so you have a pristine storage artwork ready to use for whatever you choose.

For this latest edition, illy has collaborated with Chinese artist Liu Wei whose series of large-scale canvas works ‘Purple Air’ provided the inspiration for the colourful designs which cover both cups and saucers. illy describe the artworks as:
“A complex and frenetic work with science-fiction overtones which for Liu Wei represents the continuously-evolving process of urbanization, and the structural changes taking place in modern cities. The result is a stylised metropolitan landscape with a powerful visual and emotional impact. With voids and spaces defined by unconventional colors, rigid lines that soften and then seem to liquefy, vivid sunsets and dreamlike lights.”
These very collectible limited editions are available as sets of 6 espresso or cappuccino cups, and are beautifully packaged in in these lovely presentation boxes – I definitely wouldn’t mind finding one of these wrapped up under the Christmas tree!
