On a recent visit to Copenhagen one of the highlights was a visit to Ordrupgaard where you can find the Home of Finn Juhl, the Danish architect and designer.  He built the house, an early example of open-plan living, between 1941-42 and lived there until his death in 1989.Finn-Juhl-interior

Although compact, the house is light and spacious, as you can see from the photo below, with views of the outside park from every room.

Juhl also designed the furniture and internal fittings, including iconic pieces such as the Poet sofa and Chieftains chair.

Skandium are now selling a small selection of these furniture design classics, which are manufactured in Denmark by OneCollection, the only company allowed to sell Finn Juhl designs under licence.

The Baker sofa (pictured above) was originally designed in 1951 for the American company Baker Furniture Inc. The separation of the sculptural forms of the upholstered body, resting upon an exposed wooden frame (often with beautifully organic curves), are typical examples of how Juhl created a sense of lightness and elegance in his pieces.

Also available from Skandium are the Pelikan chair, Poet sofa and, one of Finn Juhl’s best known pieces, the Chieftains chair.
