Is it just me, or do you too find the appearance of dark, heavy winter clothes and shoes in the shops in August more than a little deflating? We’ve finally got some gloriously warm, sunny weather, the summer holiday season is in full swing and yet we’re confronted with black worsted and grey wool, and any attempt to buy summer clothes or seasonally appropriate things for the home often means searching through the by now very sad-looking sales offerings.
Happily, there are still bright, beautiful colours to be found in some of the new ranges currently arriving in the shops, amongst them this delicious, hand-dipped, glazed earthenware Estrella serveware from Habitat which will look a treat on summer-time tables (but on a practical note also work perfectly well all year round).
There’s a jug in soft turquoise, a grey platter and two sizes of dish, a small one in vibrant orange, and a larger one in a very clever, rather retro yellow, that’s not too acid and bright.

I can just see a thick, creamy, gloriously orange butternut squash soup in these turquoise bowls, or a warm winter salad of dark green leaves and roasted red and yellow peppers on the grey platter.
