Many of you loved the striking rattan Egg Indoor Outdoor Hanging Chair featured a few weeks back, so I thought I’d round up some more contemporary rattan furniture. I mentioned that rattan was having a bit of a style moment this summer, but in my opinion it’s a style that’s here to stay.
A cool new twist on an old classic, you’ll want to use this new, contemporary rattan furniture indoors all year round to enjoy its lightweight airy feel, natural woven textures and contemporary colours. Forget old-fashioned conservatory furniture – the new rattan furniture features clean contemporary styling and fresh modern hues. Best of all? It it can be used absolutely anywhere in your home.
Contemporary rattan furniture
We love the natural simplicity of the Rattan Wing Chair from Graham & Green. This is such a versatile piece of furniture, it would be useful in just about any room in the house.
Habitat’s range of contemporary rattan furniture this season was particularly striking and stylish. The flowing curves and tall, hooded back of their Harpa Rattan Chair are reminiscent of the traditional, straw-backed Orkney chair. A real statement piece, the Harpa chair comes with a matching rattan footstool that could also be used as a side table and, at the time of writing (18.7.16), is reduced from £450 to £130.
Also by Habitat, the Avia range of contemporary rattan furniture comprises a dining bench, a tall chair and a smaller tub-style chair.
More genuine rattan, in the shape of the KOK Rattan Bedside or Occasional Table from La Redoute. Or there’s a black top if you prefer to keep things monochrome.
Again from La Redoute, the Malu rattan cane armchair, above, looks contemporary and chic in black. It’s also available in a natural finish, and there’s a version without arms – The Malu Rattan Occasional Chair, below.
Above: Kubu Rattan Round Chair by Dutchbone from Cuckooland. Lovely chair and gorgeous pooch – do they come as a pair?
On to some synthetic contemporary rattan furniture now. I mentioned in my previous piece how realistic and natural looking synthetic rattan is nowadays, plus how easy it is to maintain. Which makes its a very practical choice for seating such as dining chairs and bar stools – and children’s rooms too, perhaps?.
Scandi Style Rattan Tub Dining Chairs above and below by Dutch design brand HK Living. Available in black, natural, blue and green, and there’s also a version without arms.
Inject some natural textures into your kitchen with these Scandi Style Rattan Breakfast Bar Stools.
I’ve fallen hard for the soft aqua colour teamed with dark metal legs of the Vigo Lounge Rattan Chair in Turquoise.
Indoor Rattan Hanging Chair in natural, also available in black.
I hope you’ve enjoyed our round up of contemporary rattan furniture. Just a final note of caution: if you want furniture for outdoors use, do check the manufacturers details carefully. Most of the furniture above isn’t produced to the same spec as rattan furniture manufactured by outdoor furniture specialists. It isn’t intended primarily for outdoor use, although occasional use in the garden in good weather would, I’m pretty sure, be absolutely fine.
