‘Persephone’ was originally created this year as a design for end papers for Persephone Books – “the celebrated independent publisher of undeservedly forgotten women’s writing of the twentieth century”.

With an appropriately Bloomsbury feel to it, the design was originally printed in the Persephone colours of Warm Grey and Crimson, to match the grey covers of their books, but as you can see from the picture above it’s also available in three other colour ways: Cornflower/Red; Teal/Burnt Orange; Mustard/Turquoise.

‘Persephone’ is available by the sheet and also on a range of IMPRINT’s other products including notebooks, exercise books and their new range of absolutely sumptuous hand-made paper-covered box files, letter trays and portfolios which elevate storage and filing to a whole new level of colourful, beautiful gorgeousness.

Cambridge IMPRINT’s second new design for 2014 is ‘Ducks and Rabbits’, which they describe as “a deceptively simple design of tessellating animals, full of movement, energy and grace”. It may have just been printed for the first time this year but, they also say, “the pattern has been about 35 years in the making”.

Now to the oft-asked question of “Well, I can see the ducks, but where are the rabbits?”. If you can’t see them immediately, you’re not alone – not many can, it seems. I certainly couldn’t, and apparently people fall into two camps – those who see them straight away and those who, like me, need a little more help. Here we go …

And now, of course, it’s ridiculously obvious, and all I can see is rabbits. The design is available in some lovely colour ways and again has been applied to a range of products, including these new notebooks that have been modeled on old-fashioned school exercise books. They have covers of heavy (170 gsm) pattern paper, without any text or logo, and inside there are twenty pages of plain 90gsm cream paper – just the right size for a small project and perfect for sketching and drawings as well as writing.

Head on over to Cambridge IMPRINT’s website to see their full range of paper, stationery, cards and gifts. They will also be at the Persephone Christmas Open Day at their lovely bookshop in Lamb’s Conduit Street in London on December 9th, on which day gift wrapping will be free, and there will be demonstrations on how to make origami stars. I’m certainly going to do my best to drop in.
