cebl top of pageOne of our colourful highlights of the recent Clerkenwell Design Week was the collaboration between textile designer Eleanor Pritchard (who we wrote about previously here) and Enfield-based furniture makers Hitch Mylius who have been making their upholstered furniture in and around North London for more than 40 years.

And the result of this collaboration?  The Cebl seating collection, an exclusive edition of the metal-framed hm58 range designed for Hitch Mylius by Matthias Demacker upholstered in a carefully chosen selection of fabrics from Eleanor’s Arial upholstery fabric collection.

The collection comprises three pieces – a chair, an armchair and a tall stool.  Each frame is available in three bespoke powder-coated colours, matched to a choice of fabrics – you can see the combinations above.

Each pairing of frame colour and fabrics creates a very different mood.  How about the cobalt green frame with the wonderful, hot orange Belmont, above?

Or then there’s cadmium yellow with Wrekin, pictured below  – a classic combination of grey and yellow that’s both timeless and utterly contemporary here.

I also love the more muted ‘Clay’ frame – that wonderful kind of grey/brown that’s so versatile, and it looks very handsome with the  new petrol green Meldrum fabric above, and the lovely, soft, straw yellow Ashkirk below.

The Cebl collection is suitable for both domestic and contract use.  I think either of  the chairs would look fantastic around a contemporary dining table, and although my current bar stools are still in very good nick, if I were in the market again for high stools to go around my kitchen island, these would definitely be on the short list.

You can find more details about the  Cebl collection, plus the Aerial upholstery fabrics, at eleanorpritchard.com.  There have been four new designs added to the Aerial range since we wrote about it last, plus four ‘grounds’ – plain fabrics in yellow, grey, petrol green and hot orange.  You can also find more information about Hitch Mylius furniture at hitchmylius.com.
