Black and white Eley Kishimoto for Clarks wedge sandalMaybe this week’s Colour + Pattern = Joy! should be renamed Colour + Pattern + Shoes = Joy Unconfined!

Initially produced by pattern maestros Mark Eley and Wakako Kishimoto as a fashion fabric for a 2001 catwalk collection, their iconic and signature ‘Flash’ design has subsequently been applied to a diverse range of products including wallpaper (pictured below), furniture, rugs, clothing, footwear, luggage and phone and computer accessories.

Eley Kishimoto continue to primarily design their own womenswear range, but collaborations with other designers have included Louis Vuitton, Marc Jacobs, Alexander McQueen, Alber Elbaz and Jil Sander, among others.  And now, Clarks Shoes.  Hot from its launch at London Fashion Week, and new for SS13, this latest collaboration may not be quite so aspirational but, frankly, it’s infinitely more affordable (and looks fabulously comfortable) and I’ll definitely be first in the queue when these lovely wedge sandals arrive in store on 1st March.  (More styles and other fabric designs are also available – visit the Clarks website to see the entire Eley Kishimoto range and below you can see the designers at work preparing the collection for the London Fashion Week launch).

“Living by the maxim ‘Print The World’ Eley Kishimoto have, since the early 1990’s, striven to create work that exhibits a clear intention, simply executed, with a unique creative flair that rejects passing trends and fads.”
