We were delighted to hear that one of our favourite Danish design brands, Normann Copenhagen, had recently won red dot awards 2013 for not one, but three, of their colourful, sleek and stylish products. The “red dot” is established internationally as one of the most sought-after quality marks for good design, and this year 1865 manufacturers, designers and architects from 54 countries competed for these prestigious and coveted design awards. Good going, Normann Copenhagen!
For the first time ever, Normann Copenhagen bagged a “red dot: best of the best” accolade for their Geo Vacuum Flask designed by Nicholai Wiig Hansen. This award is given for groundbreaking design and is the top prize in the product design category. With its retro-futuristic styling and fashion-inspired colours, this is one very sexy, stylish vacuum flask! It keeps drinks hot or cold, and has a 1 litre capacity.
Tea Egg is a functional tea infuser made of silicone and designed by the Danish design company Made by Makers. Tea Egg received an “honourable mention 2013” at the red dot awards for its excellent detail solutions and for anyone who’s tired of faffing around with those wire mesh balls on chains, or metal hinged spoons – fiddly to fill, and even fiddlier to clean – this design is for you. Like all great designs, it’s simplicity itself.
The sculptural Shoehorn, designed by Nis Øllgaard, won the “red dot award: product design 2013” which is awarded to products that “set themselves apart from comparable projects with a significantly innovative design”.
The secret of this shoehorn’s success is in the slim, flexible tip that adjusts itself to both foot and shoe, and in the shape and thickness of the long handle that fits easily into the hand for a comfortable, secure grip.
