Small side tables with storage are indispensable pieces of furniture for small spaces. Having a couple of strategically placed sided tables is more versatile than one central coffee table. (If you’ve room for both, though – great. That’s the best of all worlds).
Small tweaks to a room make a huge difference. If you’ve ever tried to sit comfortably whilst juggling a drink, book, ipad, phone (or all of the above) with no handy surface nearby to put them, you’ll know what I mean.
Here at CBT HQ we could do with at least one small side table in our small living room. And, as with all furniture for small spaces, side tables that incorporate valuable storage are extra versatile and functional.
On the other hand, we don’t want things to look too cluttered. We searched for the ideal balance of style and practicality, and here is our current Top 10 of contemporary side tables with storage for small spaces.
Top 10 Contemporary Side Tables with Storage for Small Spaces
First up is this simple contemporary side table that’s also a magazine rack. Or maybe it’s a magazine rack that’s also a table. Whichever, the Magazine Table from Design House Stockholm does both jobs beautifully. And, to cap it all, has wheels so you can easily move it around the home once fully laden. Genius.
The iconic Componibili Unit designed by Anna Castelli Ferrieri for Kartell has been produced for more than thirty years and has been exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art in New York and at the George Pompidou Centre in Paris. Available in a range of colours it provides a small, handy table top and storage unit rolled into one.
The Grayson Side Table from John Lewis creates interesting lines with its three angled legs and floating shelf, and has a hint of the mid-century modern about it too.
Next up, the Stay Table from Normann Copenhagen which manages to be industrial and organic at the same time. Soft curves contrast with the hard steel and glossy lacquered finish whilst both the shelf and the base can be used for storage or display.
Available in two sizes and three colours, these contemporary side tables with storage will work beautifully in many places around the home.
Compact, and with clean, simple lines, the Marcos Side Table from MADE is perfect for small spaces (and larger ones too). The lacquered wood top and shelf in either grey or white contrasts with the natural rubberwood legs.
Fun, colourful and petitte, the GG Shelves by CoucouManou are also perfect side tables for very small spaces. They’ll accommodate your cup or glass and a book or two on the shelf below. Plus, the space at the bottom is just made for magazines or oversized books.
I love the opulent sophistication of the Belgrave Side Table, part of the LivingEtc collaboration with MADE. Dark stained oak contrasts with matt grey and brass – a beautiful and very contemporary combination.
Iconic furniture makers Ercol have SO many covetable designs. I just couldn’t choose between these two gorgeous, wooden side tables with storage. So I’ve sneaked both in for my next choice.
Subtle Eastern influences combined with a very contemporary grey paint finish make the Nottingham Side Table from La Redoute perfect for eclectic interiors.
And to finish off our Top 10 side tables with storage for small spaces, we have the Blyth Side Table from Habitat. There’s heaps of storage space in the lacquered base that’s topped with a bamboo wood lid. Available in a range of colours.
