These gorgeously sumptuous Ex Libris Bee Velvet Cushions by Timorous Beasties are exclusive to Liberty London, and even in amongst so many other beautiful things I did find myself making a beeline (ahem) for them last week as soon as I spotted them. Who knows what it is that makes us fall in love with something instantly, but these certainly did it for me. The classic marbling pattern has been reworked digitally and rendered in vibrant, contemporary colours, and the intricately detailed gold bee sits delicately and serenely in the centre. It’s a classic example of a Timorous Beasties reinterpretation of traditional techniques and illustrative styles combined with their killer colour palettes.
The cushions are in 100% cotton velvet, and come in three colours – orange shown above, and teal and pink pictured below. (I would have to say that the photo of the teal cushion doesn’t really do it justice … I think the colours are deeper and richer in real life.) The reverse of the cushion is in a plain, contrasting fabric, and they have a concealed zip closure.

The fine detail of the illustrations is astonishing, and really comes alive on the rich velvet cotton pile.
Liberty also have a range of other Timorous Beasties designs, and I’ve chosen my favourites below:
More sumptuous velvet and single motifs, but in rich, plain shades this time: above is the Gold Thistle Velvet Cushion and below the Olive Napoleon Bee Print Velvet Cushion.
The muted shades of the large Brown Moth Blotch Cushion are printed on heavy linen fabric, and you can see the level of intricacy in the design in the detail below.
There’s also a second design on the reverse of the cushion, pictured above.
Above, Beige Birds and Bees Pisticule Cushion, and below Grey Birds and Bees Roller Cushion, both on 100% linen with plain reverse.
