Mara-Hoffman-x-Anthropologie-Printed-Journal

This week is all about books here on colourful beautiful things. I’m nearly at the end of my short bookbinding course for beginners, which is sad, but I’ve learned a huge amount and have so many ideas for creative book projects. Finding the time to actually make them is, as ever, the issue. In the meantime, I’m always on the lookout for interesting and covetable notebooks, journals and albums, and these colourful journals caught my eye during a recent trip to Anthropologie.

The cover art is the work of New York based fashion designer Mara Hoffman, and this is her first collaboration with Anthropologie who are always working with artists and designers to create unique and inspiring collections. Born in Buffalo NY, Mara graduated from Parsons School of Design in New York City before going on to study at our very own Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London. The LA Times describes her style as “Technicolor tribal hippie chic” – spot on, we think.

They’re a useful size too, at just less than A5 size, so small and light enough to carry around but not so small as to limit your creativity. With summer upon us, and the holiday and festival season in full swing, these would make perfect travel journals and the cover designs really set the tone for happy, hippy summer adventures.

If you like Mara’s eclectic style that mixes psychedelic, graphic, tribal and architectural influences, there are also other homewares in the collection, including these lovely large squashy floor cushions above, and the bedlinen below which has wonderful embroidered details amongst the intricate print.
