I’ve fallen hard for these beautiful velvet armchairs. Really hard. I love everything about them. The colours – grass green or blush pink. On their own – gorgeous. Together – a match made in heaven.
A quick aside: blush pink was one of last year’s big colours, but isn’t going anywhere. Which is excellent news, as it make a fantastic contemporary neutral.
And as for green, well, that’s here to stay for a while too. The new Pantone colour of the year for 2017 is fresh, mid-toned “Greenery”. The interiors stores, though, are full of the many, varied hues of green from yellow-green chartreuse to shades of dark forest green and rich emerald.
But back to these velvet armchairs. I love the sleek brass frame. Brass is my favourite metallic for interiors, and here it’s smooth, pale and modern. I also love that the sculptural frame has softly rounded angles – as does the upholstery. So the Frame Armchair is full of clean, geometric lines tempered with soft curves that stop it being too, well, angular.
And I also love that the velvet fabric is cotton-rich (85% cotton/15% polyester) which means it has a lovely deep and rich matte finish. (Did I tell you already I love everything about these velvet armchairs?)
This is a perfect example of the new “modern luxury” that I mentioned in my last post. I wouldn’t normally write two consecutive posts about furniture (I do try and mix it up a little for you) but I am just so excited about these velvet beauties. I’ve stopped hyperventilating now, but only just. That’s how smitten I am.
These deceptively simple velvet armchairs also, I think, illustrate beautifully the “new modern”. As described by Elle Decoration editor-in-chief Michelle Ogundehein in their latest edition.
The hallmark of this “new modern”? Simple, contemporary shapes and pared-back design realised using luxurious and opulent materials – marble, metallics, velvet, silk. The look isn’t shy of using sophisticated bright colours and pattern either. All of which is music to my ears, of course.
So the Frame Armchair captures the new interiors mood beautifully, and I can’t wait to see what the rest of 2017 brings. By the way, did I tell you how much I lo… ?
