Decorative magazine holders from Idyll HomeIsn’t it great when you stumble across things that are exactly what you need, and that you really, really like, when you’re not even looking for them?  After months of inertia on the home front, during which the idea of decluttering/reorganising seemed far too demanding to even contemplate, a recent burst of activity has seen a huge stash of 15-year old magazines finally sent to recycling heaven, old files and papers culled, and our garden room/studio made into a semi-usable office space. With new home storage, filing and organising items on the shopping list, I was so happy to find these beautiful magazine and file holders by Idyll Home.

They’re covered in what they describe as vintage-style paper decorated with simple geometric designs – decorative enough to add interest, but not too bright or overwhelming. They’ll look perfect mixed in with the white storage and shelving we already have.

Two decorative storage boxes by Idyll Home

They also do this set of two storage boxes which have copper button and elastic fastenings, are handy and practical for storing all kinds of small items, and would look lovely anywhere in the house.  As well as the decluttering that’s been going on, we’ve also revamped our sitting room; the new sofa arrived yesterday, and now I’m looking for a round, white side table and rug. I’ve got these boxes in mind for sitting on the side table as storage for tea lights and matches, and my ever growing collection of reading/sewing glasses.  They’ll add a nice touch of subtle colour and small-scale pattern to the room.
Vintage paper jewellery boxesThese jewellery boxes could be used for all kinds of other bits and bobs too – I’m thinking of my sewing box which has a mass (mess?) of random buttons, fasteners, scraps of ribbons and beads at the bottom of it, which could all be organised (at least for a while) into these little compartments.  I also think these, and the boxes above, would make fantastic presents for anyone who loves decorative paper and pattern.

All are available online from Not on the High Street along with the rest of the Idyll Home range of unusual and interesting home accessories which includes, amongst lots of other goodies, some rather gorgeous retro influenced and modern Scandinavian desk lights – I think our new home office space might well end up looking quite smart, as well as organised.
