Gabrielle Vary cushionsWe’re focusing on all things colourful, cosy and cheery at the moment – warm, comforting textures and vibrant, cheerful hues to beat the winter blues (or should that be greys)?

I first saw these gorgeous knitted cushions by Gabrielle Vary a few months ago, but as the temperatures at the time were in the 80’s (sigh!) it didn’t seem very appropriate to write about them at the time.  So I’ve been saving them up – rather impatiently! – and they’re definitely just the thing for right now.  I’m so pleased that there are some great close ups of these fabulous, luxurious knits to show you – the quality and snuggle factor just jumps right out of the screen, as in the image below. Who wouldn’t want to cuddle up with this on the sofa on a cold winter’s evening?

After graduating from Winchester School of Art, Gabrielle moved back home to the East Sussex coast, and set up her studio where she designs and produces her colourful creations. Based near the creative hub of Brighton, Gabrielle draws on themes such as childhood memories to inspire her creative designs, expressing a love of pattern and colour.

Gabrielle’s original designs are all lovingly knitted and finished by hand, and her passion for quality means that she uses only the highest quality lambswool, sourced from a luxury British wool spinner. This family run business has been trading in Yorkshire since 1766 in Yorkshire, and also supplies to the likes of Pringle, Chanel and Burberry.  This attention to detail means that Gabrielle’s range of cushions, wraps, scarves and hand warmers will last for years to come, if cared for well – which sadly isn’t always the case for knitted products.

Speaking of scarves … here are my favourites from the collection – they could be perfect Christmas presents for anyone who likes their colour and pattern combined with a little luxury:

I love the way that Gabrielle’s colour palette is so bright and yet soft at the same time, and a perfect complement to the luxurious woollen yarn that she uses to create these wonderful handknits. Vibrant colour, fresh, modern patterns, and the very best of the British woollen industry … definitely a marriage made in heaven.
