The A Frame Collection designed by Matthew Elton for the new Ambrose range at Heals is a must for design lovers looking for furniture for small spaces. Its ingenious design means that it fits together without the need for glue, screws or bolts, and the elements of the system can be mixed and matched according to your requirements.
The A-Frame Collection can be configured to be a set of shelves, a desk with shelves above, or a hanging rail for use in the bedroom and hallway. The units are sturdy and free standing and could also be used as room dividers.
True to the ‘small spaces/smart living’ ethos of the Ambrose range, the real beauty of the A-Frame Collection is how multifunctional and adaptable it is. You may initially need a small desk with shelves, for example, but after a house or flat move that gives you space for a bigger, free-standing desk, you can convert the system into a hanging rail or simple bookshelf – genius.
The secret is in the way the two A-frame supports are angled at 6 degrees in all directions to support the individual components as they slot together. Made using traditional techniques, the shelves feature precision made slots allowing them to wedge gently into position to stabilise the piece. And to maintain a consistent colour, each finished A-Frame has been machined from a single piece of oak.
Having now seen the A-Frame Collection at the recent London Design Festival and also whilst browsing around the new arrivals in Heals, the quality of the materials and craftsmanship is evident. These truly are pieces made to stand the test of time.
You can see the hanging rail configuration above, which also incorporates a handy shelf.
And of course, finding the right furniture for small spaces isn’t just about having small rooms – access to them can be awkward too. With this in mind, the the A-Frame Collection has been designed to dismantle easily and completely, making access via small staircases and through tight spaces a breeze.
Full marks to Ambrose for its ‘small spaces/smart living’ philosophy and it’s beautifully designed and crafted A-Frame Collection. To see more of their products for small space living and to shop online visit www.ambrose.co.uk. You can also find their products in-store and online at Heals.
